Bioactivity of Piper extracts on Tuta absoluta (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) in tomato PAB
Brito,Elaine Ferrari de; Baldin,Edson Luiz Lopes; Silva,Roney de Carvalho Macedo; Ribeiro,Leandro do Prado; Vendramim,José Djair.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the bioactivity of ethanolic leaf extracts from four species of the genus Piper against the tomato leafminer Tuta absoluta (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) under laboratory conditions. The evaluated species were: P. amalago var. medium, P. glabratum, P. mikanianum, and P. mollicomum. In the initial screening assay (extract concentration of 2,000 mg L-1), all tested extracts caused significant larval mortality, particularly the extract of P. amalago var. medium; however, no extracts reduced the weight of the surviving larvae. The extract from P. amalago var. medium at the concentration of 1,011 mg L-1 caused a significant lengthening of the larval and pupal stages. The ethanolic leaf extract of P. amalago var. medium is...

Bioactivity of the organic extracts of Annona vepretorum on Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae) PAB
Fernandes,Maria Herlândia de Araújo; Menezes,Karen Oliveira de; Souza,Adriana Maria de; Almeida,Jackson Roberto Guedes da Silva; Oliveira,José Eudes de Morais; Gervásio,Rita de Cássia Rodrigues Gonçalves.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the lethal and sublethal toxicity of hexane and methanolic extracts from the leaves of Annona vepretorum (Annonaceae) on Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae). The methanolic extract toxicity was evaluated by Potter tower application (topical + residual effect) and by immersion of Canavalia ensiformis leaf disks in the extract solution (residual contact effect). The hexane extract toxicity was evaluated exclusively through residual contact effect. Sublethal effects of the methanolic extract were evaluated through LC50 on the females. Mite preference for feeding and oviposition was evaluated by multiple choice tests, between the control and the extract concentrations, using the hexane and methanolic...

Perception paysanne et adoption des biopesticides et/ou extraits botaniques en production maraîchère au Bénin AgEcon
Adekambi, Souleimane Adeyemi; Adegbola, Patrice Ygue; Arouna, Aminou.
The importance of farmers’ perceptions of characteristics on agricultural innovation adoption has increased these two decades. Empirical studies revealed that in addition to farmers’ socioeconomic characteristics and institutional factors, farmers’ perceptions of the innovation-specific characteristics are particularly important in determining whether or not to adopt them. This study assessed vegetables farmers’ perceptions of botanical extracts and biopesticides compared with current chemical pesticides. It also examined the relationship between farmers’ perceptions and the adoption of botanical extracts and biopesticides. Data were collected from a stratified randomly sample of 198 vegetables farmers selected in vegetable producing zones in Benin and...

Phytochemical profile of cansanção nettle extracts and their bioactivities on cabbage caterpillar PAB
Carvalho Neto,Moisés Felix de; Gervásio,Rita de Cássia Rodrigues Gonçalves; Araújo,Edigênia Cavalcante da Cruz; Almeida,Jadson Cardoso de; Guimarães,Amanda Leite.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the phytochemical profile and bioactivity of extracts of Brazilian stinging (“cansanção”) nettle (Cnidoscolus urens) on cabbage caterpillar (Ascia monuste orseis). Mortality, larval stage duration, pupal viability and mass, percentage of deformed pupae, and feeding preference were evaluated. The constituent classes of the ethanolic extracts were also identified by analytical thin-layer chromatography (TLC). Ethanolic extracts of leaves and roots at 2% (m/v) and aqueous extract of roots at 20% (m/v) prolonged the larval phase of the insect. The ethanolic extract of leaves at 2% reduced pupal viability, and pupae from all treatments showed reduced masses and generated deformed adults. Except for the...
